Building Beautifully and Sustainably

Part of our development strategy is planning for a sustainable and environmentally friendly future. We target LEED® ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ) standards with our new developments, and have incorporated the latest technologies into our designs to promote efficiency. LEED® is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings and is awarded by the Canada Green Building Council.

• MAPLE received LEED® Silver Certification (LEED® for New Construction) in 2022. The certificate acknowledges the 2018 project has achieved the required prerequisites and credits under the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design ( LEED®)

• The Grainery Lofts, received LEED® Gold Certification (LEED® for New Construction) in 2014. This achievement marked the first privately owned and developed, multi-unit residential building east of Montreal to achieve LEED® Gold status. The building was constructed with eco-friendliness in mind. By restoring an under-utilized urban site, we were able to create an environmentally conscious building this is close to green transportation alternatives.

• MAPLE, our latest, mixed-use development and Rental Development of the Year 2018  ( Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations ) will avoid the inefficiencies caused by thermal bridging—an unwanted heat transfer between the exterior and interior of a building via inefficient building materials—by installing cutting-edge Schöck Isokorb thermal break systems. This will ensure the comfort of our residents at all times, while simultaneously reducing heating and cooling costs and our overall environmental footprint. • CURVE at SOUTH PARK received LEED® Gold Certification in September 2023. Achieving this certification required Southwest to fulfill strict, measurable benchmarks and earn credits in five categories – sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy & atmosphere, materials & resources, and indoor environmental quality. The rental development, designed by Norman Flynn Design and Page + Steele/IBI Group Architects, is the third building within our portfolio to achieve LEED® status reflecting our unwavering commitment to green initiatives.
