Julie Houde and Laura MacPhee are the duo behind the success of Queensberry Rules. Since 2018 their Downtown Dartmouth location has been offering Boxing Bootcamps blending old-school drills with current fitness training.

“We’ve looked for some time for the perfect Halifax location, we felt this downtown space overlooking the public gardens and in the downtown core would be great,” said Julie Houde, President & CEO of Queensberry Rules. “Over the years, we have had several inquiries about a Halifax location. With the growing residential population in downtown and the proximity to the universities, we think that having a presence in Downtown Halifax is a must.”

In addition to the classes, special programming, and personal sessions, the new studio will feature a connected food and beverage element to provide on-the-go meals, coffee & juices, and healthy snacks. This will also double as a concession area for special events.

“People are recognizing the health benefits of boxing training both from a physical and mental capacity,” said MacPhee. “This new studio will allow us to do expand our training, group classes, and special events. We’ll have a full-size ring and space for spectators. We want to continue to build the boxing community in Nova Scotia.”

This announcement completes Southwest Properties’ retail lease-up for the development comprising of CURVE rentals and PAVILION condominiums.

“We’ve been able to create a really good tenant mix on South Park”, said Colin Beiswanger, Commercial Leasing Manager for Southwest Properties. “We want to partner with the best in their given area. Julie and Laura have grown their business from the ground up and we feel there’s a lot of opportunity for what they do in Halifax,” added Beiswanger.

Queensberry Rules joins a Tenant mix including the John W. Lindsay YMCA, Tsujiri Café, Highlander Spa and Lounge, CUA, Sushi Jet Asian Cuisine, and a yet-to-be announced restaurant from the operators of Field Guide.
