Southwest Properties receives Green Building Pioneer Award

During a reception following the Canada Green Building Council’s Atlantic Chapter Conference, Southwest Properties was awarded the Green Building Pioneer Award for 2017 – an award that recognized Southwest’s contributions towards the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter’s mission and goals of accelerating green building in Atlantic Canada.

This award goes to a deserving individual or team who demonstrates an innovative approach to the advancement of green building technology, products, design and performance. As a result, their unique passion pushes the industry, their competitors, customers and employees towards continuous improvement ultimately helping the CaGBC achieve its ultimate goal of every building greener.

Southwest achieved LEED® Gold Certification for new construction with The Grainery Lofts.  This achievement marked the first privately owned and developed, multi-residential building east of Montreal to achieve LEED® Gold status.

Southwest Properties is now targeting LEED® Gold certification for MAPLE, the newest residential development in downtown Halifax –  making it the largest residential project in the region to do so. Guiding principles for MAPLE include smart growth strategies, new urbanism and green building practices to ensure the creation of a sustainable, beautiful and livable building.

The award was presented as part of the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter’s BuildGreen Atlantic Conference at the WTCC in Halifax on Monday, September 25, 2017.
